This photo was taken at Kent School.
Kent School originated in 1913 as St. Joseph's Monastery in Swalm Valley and includes a school, offices, chapel and outbuildings.
About 600 psychic, mental and handicapped children lived in these buildings.
The Franciscus brothers, owners/leaders, had to leave the monastery for apparent offenses.
Later the monastery was named "Waldniel Hostert" and functioned as a shelter for the disabled.
This was during the period when Hitler was in power and he wanted to purify the world of different kinds of races, including the disabled.
The Germans turned the site into a euthanasia center.
Mainly to kill the disabled children.
It was never confirmed but around 512 people died.
Mainly children killed by the drug "Luminal".
After the Second World War the British used the monastery as a military hospital (until 1963).
Then it was converted into the Kent School.
During the conversion, remains of murdered children and adults were found.
