The Skinny Bridge is one of the best known and most photographed bridges in Amsterdam. The drawbridge made of white-painted wood runs across the Amstel River and connects the Kerkstraat with the Nieuwe Kerkstraat. Its characteristic appearance may suggest otherwise, but the Skinny Bridge is not that old yet. The current piece of infrastructure was built in 1934 and restored in 1969. It owes its nickname to its predecessor who, in the seventeenth century, connected both banks at the same spot.
In the evening, the bridge is illuminated with more than a thousand lights. The fairytale reflection of the lights in the water of the Amstel river gives the bridge a romantic look.
