The human skull consists of 22 bones, making it the most elaborate part of the skeleton. The exterior of a skull can be divided into the forehead skull and the facial skull. On the latter stand out the eye sockets, which contain the eyes, while there are openings that allow the olfactory and auditory organs to pass through. On the lower side one finds the so-called skull base which fits into the Atlas (vertebra), or upper vertebral disc, with two thorny protrusions. The largest hole of the skull base is the occipital hole, through which runs the extended spinal cord. The upper jaw consists of two, centrally fused bone parts. Together with the lower jaw, they contain all the teeth, which make food grinding possible. The lower jaw is movable in relation to the upper jaw by means of the attached very strong chewing muscles. source wikipedia
