About the artwork
"Something more than just half a tulip" is a photo of a pink tulip but with a different crop than you might expect.
When photographing this tulip, I was looking for an image that for me we clearly "Tulip" radiates, but just makes it more exciting than a centrally placed tulip. I did really want to keep the shape and recognisability in the photo.
After much trial and error and different shots, I arrived at this photo. The tulip is largely present, a little less than 3/4 of this flower is in the picture, but even though the tulip is not completely in the picture, this does not bother me.
On the contrary, it intrigues me. The colours and composition make it a more exciting yet balanced picture, to my mind.
I picked this tulip in a picking garden in North Holland, cleaned the tulip well and waited until the leaves opened up a bit more. This allows the light to fall more beautifully through the petals.
Because of the depth of field I chose in this photo, the front part is sharp and the further back you go, the blurrier the tulip becomes. This gives a sense of depth to the photo while also creating a sense of calm.
This photo could, for example, hang beautifully as decoration in the waiting room, dining room or just above the sofa in the living room!
