The tawny owl is the most common owl species in the Netherlands. But you still have to pay very close attention if you want to see 'm during the day. I found this one in a tree cavity some'5 metres above the ground. Fully camouflaged, it was dozing there. I briefly made the squeaking sound of a mouse, and that was enough to open its eyes for a moment. "Click".... the picture was taken and the owl slept on. I picked up my things and also moved on....
