26 cm. A medium-sized wader. Usually stays in cover and is difficult to see. Its most striking feature is its very long straight bill. They use that long bill to grope for all kinds of benthic animals, such as earthworms. Has long beige and black longitudinal stripes on head and back. They are found in areas with shallow water, muddy patches and lots of cover.
It is a beautiful bird to watch and certainly to photograph.
