About ‘Snow-covered sheep’ by Ton Drijfhamer

On 7 January 2026, I stood in the cutting cold at the edge of an open, snow-covered field. It was one of those winter days when sound seems to disappear: snow muffling everything, a pale sky dissolving the landscape, and a strong wind cutting through the reeds. On the left in the image, I saw that reed bending under the snow and the gusts of wind; a rough, living edge in an otherwise almost completely white backdrop.

As I chose my position, the flock of sheep approached curiously, compact and cautious, as if they knew that close proximity offered the best protection. Or were they looking for help? Their coats were already covered in a fine layer of snow, which made them blend in with their surroundings while at the same time standing out because of their soft, rounded shapes. I waited until they had formed into a tight group and the rhythm of the image was right: the reed counterbalanced on the left, the leader in front, looking at me sternly.

As I printed, my eye caught one sheep standing the other way. While the rest kept the same direction, this one seemed to stubbornly want to go the other way -precisely the sleeper that you have in almost every group. That detail humanised the scene and gave the image a subtle smile, without breaking the winter atmosphere.

The result is a quiet recording of a moment where cold, calm and character come together.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
