I look at the evening red. The warm light sets fire to the melted snow in the tractor tracks. It is quiet, here I can hear the robin chirping and in the distance in the sky a crow scratching. The stillness and the whole setting reminds me of a painting by Anton Mauve. I have to paint fast, the light changes every five minutes. With blobs and touching brushstrokes, I paint this landscape near Mechelen in southern Limburg with firm strokes quickly on my panel. It is winter.
