This image plunges us into the intimacy of everyday life in a colourful kampung in Malang, Indonesia. In the centre, a sturdy hand-operated water pump, marked by the passage of time, symbolises the traditional domestic life that is still very much alive in many parts of the country. Its weathered metal, rusty bolts and concrete base bear witness to many years of use. Around it, the walls painted bright yellow and blue add a touch of gaiety and recall the communal and creative spirit that animates these urban villages.
Stacked utensils, colourful basins and plastic bottles reinforce the sense of authenticity and simplicity. Here, every object has its role, and every daily gesture becomes a ritual shared between generations. This scene, at once modest and vibrant, embodies a poetry of the everyday, where beauty is found in the functionality and memory of things.
Through this photograph, the silent dignity of a humble way of life, full of colour and history, is expressed in the heart of a village where tradition and modernity coexist in harmony.
