This work is a close-up of a Southern carmine bee-eater (Merops nubicoides) sitting or perhaps better described as balancing on a twig. The brightly coloured bird stands out beautifully against the blurred background formed by bushes and a blue sky. The photo was taken in the Bwabwata national park in northern Namibia
