Speed skating poster Allrounders, world champions

by Sidney van den Boogaard

Two rivers of champions on a night-blue sheet. On the left flows the men's line, 112 world allround titles since 1893; on the right the women's, 81 titles since 1936. Each year is a thin layer in the stream, and the width of each colour is that nation's share of the titles in the nine years around it. You watch nations rise and fade: Norwegian blue in the early decades, Soviet green, the yellow of Germany and the GDR, and the orange that swells from Kees Verkerk, Ard Schenk, Stien Kaiser and Atje Keulen-Deelstra until it almost fills the riverbed. Every champion is named with their years, from Jaap Eden 1893 to Sander Eitrem and Ragne Wiklund 2026. The legend keeps the tally: Netherlands 57, Norway 40, Soviet Union/Russia 35, Germany/GDR 22. For anyone who grew up with the allrounders and watches every championship.

This work is part of the Roll of Honour collection: sports history as a data print. Each print takes one sport and turns its whole roll of honour, from the first edition to today, into one graphic image, every name and number cross-checked against two independent sources.

Independent work, not affiliated with or endorsed by any league, federation, team or athlete; the data comes from Wikipedia and other public sources. A great gift for the fan who knows their sport's results by heart, for the living room, the study or the clubhouse.
