The old warehouses of Speicherstadt, Hamburg
Speicherstadt in Hamburg, Germany, is a complex of warehouses built between 1883 and 1927 on a series of islands in the riverbed of the Elbe. The storage area is part of an older part of the Port of Hamburg. The first warehouses, built with brick on a foundation with piles, were commissioned in 1888. The complex is part of Hamburg's HafenCity district in the Hamburg-Mitte district. It is separated from the Altstadt by the waters of the Zollkanal and connected to it by eight bridges.
