Kruisplein is the main entrance to Rotterdam. From the Central Station a pedestrian route leads into the city, towards Westersingel, Museum Park and the river Nieuwe Maas.
On this spherical panorama this axis runs from the left (Kruisplein) to the right (Mauritsweg / Westersingel) branching off towards West Kruiskade (below) and Schouwburgplein (above)
The architecture around Kruisplein is ??a beautiful showcase of architectural styles from different eras. Clockwise: the distinctive red and white building on the upper right is the Calypso building(architect William Alsop) which was completed recently. The buildings on the other side of Westersingel are mostly prewar. The same applies to West-Kruiskade, Rotterdam's multicultural axis, also regarded as Rotterdam's own Chinatown.
Further clockwise we see the two blocks that in the eighties were the first completed project by Mecanoo, the office of Francine Houben. Behind it is the former Building Centre and the new office tower First.
On the far left one can see the spectacular new Central Station. Top left we see the Millennium Tower, art school Codarts, the extension of concert hall De Doelen as well as De Doelen proper. And on the top of the image is the multiplex cinema at Schouwburgplein.
This panorama was composed of 21 photos taken on a beautiful Sunday morning in December 2015, shortly after the completion of Kruisplein.
