The Sint Matius church is located in Weert in the Leuken district.
People first set up an emergency church here in a condemned school building; the inventory was taken from nearby chapels: Sint-Matthias, Sint-Job and Sint-Rochus.
This temporary church served until 1957, but in 1954 it was already deemed too small.
Construction of a new church began in 1955. It is a with-oriented brick pseudo-Basilica.
A massive brick square structure on the south side topped by an open belfry replaced the tower. On the choir side is a Lady Chapel. The interior looks Gothic with cross vaults over the nave and a fan vault over the choir.
