I spent a lot of time creating this image in beautiful realistic fresh colours as I think Vincent van Gogh intended it to be.

The painting was made during Vincent van Gogh's time in Arles, France.

Vincent van Gogh painted Starry Night over the Rhone shortly after an evening walk in which, according to his own correspondence, he experienced a kind of mystical coherence of water, grass and sky. In his depiction he therefore allows these three elements to merge into a dynamic whole. Vincent van Gogh clearly took pleasure in making Starry Night over the Rhone, as evidenced by the extensive attention he paid to the work in his correspondence. The work exudes a certain joy, which is underlined by the couple downstairs, who seem to experience the romantic feeling of Starry Night with the painter. In letters to his brother Theo, Van Gogh emphasizes the color composition he had in mind, which he based on color theories by Eugène Delacroix: "The starry sky is painted in the evening, under the light of gas lanterns. The sky is green-blue, the water deep blue, the ground light purple. The city is also blue and purple. The gaslight is yellow and the reflections red-gold to green bronze.
