The Lebuinus Church is a Gothic hall church and was established between 1450 and 1525. Originally, the church on the west side had a complex of towers. The central tower was flanked by four smaller ones, largely demolished in 1454. The foundation stone for today's tower was laid in the summer of 1459.
The upper part of the tower, the dome, is also called the lantern. It is a design by the famous master builder Hendrick de Keyser from 1613. On the dome are the words Fide Deo, Vigila, Consule, Fortis Age. Which means: Trust in God, be vigilant and considerate, be fearless.
