Stonehenge in Wiltshire England is among the most famous megalithic monuments in the world. The shrines consist of circles of menhirs arranged in a pattern whose astronomical significance is still under investigation. These sacred sites and nearby Neolithic areas constitute unique relics of prehistory. They provide insight into death worship and ceremonial practices of this period and are evidence of prehistoric technology, architecture and astronomy. In addition, the careful placement of the monuments in relation to the landscape, gives further insight into the Neolithic and Bronze Age.
