The stork is a large, white bird with black wing edges. Storks have long, red legs and a long, pointed, red bill. Males and females look the same. In this, the male is on average larger than the female. A stork grows to be about between 100 and 120 cm long (bill to tail end). The wingspan is 155 to 165 cm and they weigh 2.3 to 4.4 kg. The black of the flight feathers and of the wing coverts is caused by the pigment melanin.
