On the municipal boundary west of Amersfoort lies a beautiful forest and nature reserve Birkhoven. This area runs into the Korte- and Lange Duinen near Soest. Here you can wander and enjoy a wide variety of trees with varying open and closed landscapes. You will also find remnants from the time of the Second World War. For example, there is a very beautiful Pinetum and forest pond, both made by the inhabitants of Amersfoort at that time. It is also the area where the special zoo Amersfoort Zoo can be found. Worth a visit.
