For years I have enjoyed walking through my city, and every time I come to Koppelpoort, I take a moment to pause. I took this photo on a bright, sunny day, the kind of weather where the brick masonry really comes alive. The light fell just right on the gate and the surrounding water, making the shapes and details stand out even more. I chose a slightly lower viewpoint to emphasise the robustness of the gate and use the water as a natural mirror. What continues to fascinate me about the Koppelpoort is how well it embodies the history of Amersfoort: sturdy, functional, but at the same time beautiful in its simplicity. Even after all these years, it remains a place I love to return to as a photographer and resident, each time with a new perspective.
