This photo was taken during a stay at the campsite on top of Gulperberg in southern Limburg. At the end of the day, I took a short walk near the campsite. The light was just right: the sun was low and coloured the sky orange, without being overly dramatic.
In the foreground, you can see a country road going down the hill. To the left and right are wooden posts enclosing meadows where cows usually graze, as they did today. The landscape is typical of this region: rolling, varied and open.
What appealed to me about this image is the tranquillity and overview. No spectacular action, just an ordinary moment in a place where the day ends quietly. The combination of the warm colours, the simple road and the vast surroundings give the image a natural balance.
For me, this work is a down-to-earth depiction of a place where you can take a breath. In an interior, it fits well with people who like peace, space and a touch of Dutch landscape. It does not necessarily evoke great emotions, but it does exude something recognisable and timeless.
