The Ammersee is the northernmost and - after the Chiemsee and the Starnberger See - the third largest pre-alpine lake in Bavaria. The lake is the property of the Free State of Bavaria as a municipal-free area of the same name, for which the Bavarian Administration of State Palaces, Gardens and Lakes is responsible.
