About ‘Sunset in the Namib Desert’ by Herbert Böck

The Namib Desert surrounding the Namib-Naukluft National Park feels like another world – vast, silent and almost unreal. Here, gigantic sand dunes meet rugged mountains, dried-up riverbeds and endless plains of stone and dust. During the day, the sand glows a deep orange and red, especially when the sun is low in the sky. After sunset, the atmosphere changes completely. The heat quickly dissipates, the air turns cool and clear, and a vast starry sky appears over the Namib. With no towns or artificial light, the night there seems almost boundless – silent, dark and full of stars stretching to the horizon.
