The Alte Land, the largest fruit-growing area in northern Europe, lies just outside Hamburg. Between Stade and Finkenwerder, 10 million fruit trees transform this stretch of land into a huge sea of blossoms every year in May. Every evening, when the many tourists have left the small villages with their picturesque half-timbered houses, peace returns as the sun disappears behind the trees.
