About ‘Sunset on Skokholm’ by Rene van Dam

During a beautiful sunset, on the island of Skokholm on the west coast of Wales, this puffin went out to sea once more in search of food. It had been a beautiful day with lots of wind and I was detouring to my accommodation when I came across this situation. I got on my belly and waited for it to fly away.

The Puffin, the clown of the ocean, on the island of Skokholm on the west coast of Wales.

The puffin is a remarkable bird, almost penguin-like to behold. Its beak consists of bright colours: yellow, red and blue-grey. Puffins do not breed in the Netherlands, but are sometimes seen along the coast in strong onshore winds; almost never inland. Often found as an oil slick. Breeds on rocky islands in the Atlantic Ocean.
