On a windy day on the Engelsmanplaat, the sun slowly sinks behind the horizon. The bird-watcher's house stands out beautifully against the brightly coloured sky. The Engelsmanplaat is a sandbank in the Wadden Sea, between Ameland and Schiermonnikoog, and falls dry during low tide. There used to be a drowning house here for shipwrecked people. But these were repeatedly swept away by storms. Now there is a hut where bird watchers permanently sit in summer.
