About ‘Svartifoss – a basalt waterfall in Iceland’ by Irene van de Wege

Part of the Iceland Elements series. Svartifoss is one of Iceland’s most remarkable waterfalls, known for the dark basalt columns that stand around the water like a natural cathedral. This photograph captures the rugged beauty of the landscape, where volcanic rock, flowing water and remnants of winter snow come together.

The geometric shapes of the basalt give the image an almost graphic quality, whilst the mist and damp air surrounding the waterfall create a soft, mysterious atmosphere. Svartifoss is located in the Skaftafell area, part of Vatnajökull National Park, and is a favourite spot for lovers of impressive nature and Scandinavian landscapes. This image fits perfectly into a modern or minimalist interior and looks particularly stunning as a fine art print or large-format wall decoration.
