Svartifoss (translated as "Black Falls") is one of the most iconic waterfalls in Iceland, renowned for its striking surroundings rather than its size. Behind the cascade, hexagonal basalt columns create a unique and dramatic amphitheater setting. These dark lava columns gave the waterfall its name. They formed as a result of the slow cooling of lava, which causes the crystallization and fracture of the rock into these geometric shapes.
