About "Swimming in abandoned building"

by Stella Ammerlaan

About the artwork

In this intriguing image, a girl stands alone in the middle of an abandoned building. The walls around her are old and peeling, with visible concrete and broken foundations. The ground is littered with small debris and the air seems heavy with the silence of neglect. The atmosphere is oppressive, yet there is a strange sense of calm.

The girl, wearing a simple swimming costume, has a pink inflatable swimming band around her waist, a playful and carefree accessory that feels strangely out of place in this desolate environment. Her bare feet rest on the dusty floor, and in front of her are three brightly coloured inflatable swimming balls - one blue, one yellow and one pink - scattered as if they had been left behind while playing. These vibrant, cheerful colours stand in stark contrast to the drab surroundings.

The girl stands still, her gaze fixed on a mysterious light that seems to come from nowhere. The light casts a soft glow on her face and creates a sense of wonder and confusion. It feels like she is drawn to something out there, something unseen, which adds a layer of curiosity to the scene.

The combination of her summer swimsuit and the abandoned building gives the scene a surreal feel, as if she is misplaced in time and space, evoking a sense of mystery as to why she is there and what she is waiting for.
