Rubjerg Knude Fyr is a lighthouse near the town of Lønstrup in Jutland, Denmark. The lighthouse stands on the cliffs of Lønstrup Klint at an altitude of 60 metres above sea level.
What makes this lighthouse so special is its location in the huge sand dunes that seem to swallow it up.
Due to the erosion of the coastline, Rubjerg Knude almost disappeared into the sea. To prevent this, the lighthouse was moved 70 metres inland on 22 October 2019 by means of a purpose-built rail.
To reach the lighthouse, you take a nice walk from one of the parking places nearby. The last part of the walk goes through the high sand dunes and along the way you will see the lighthouse continuously rising above the dune landscape.
We visited the lighthouse as a stop on our way to Norway and found it a must-see while visiting western Denmark.
