Chen painted "Tamsui Landscape (Tamsui)" after returning from China. Tamsui's landscape was his main source of inspiration during this period, his creative high point. The painting takes a bird's eye view, the visual centerpiece a small winding road. Houses rise on either side of the road, their "flying eaves" facing the sky, forming a layered spatial arrangement, richly varied. Green trees are scattered among the red-tiled roofs, creating a vivid contrast and quaint charm. Chen's simple, unadorned brushwork reveals the classic elegance and vivid beauty of the Tamsui landscape.
