Tawny owl in the tree in a beautiful autumn setting. The tawny owl (Strix aluco) is a bird of the order of the owls (Strigiformes). This owl is 37 to 43 cm long and has a wingspan of 80 to 95 cm. The female weighs 553 g and is on average 110 g heavier than the male. This makes it a medium-sized owl, with a relatively clumsy body and a large round head.
