About the artwork

Anthony of Egypt, Anthony Abbot, Anthony Hermit, or Anthony the Great (Heracleopolis Magna, Egypt, 251 - Colzimberg, 356) was a Christian saint known as the father of monasticism. His name day is January 17. He was the first monk to gain many followers and is therefore known as the father of monastic life. To Antony is attributed the first formulation of the metaphor of the book of nature.

The story of the Temptations of St. Anthony is well known. It is said that demons appeared to Anthony who tried to keep him from the good path. This story has been a rich source of inspiration for many painters.

Here too women are seducing men while girls are posing naked. The woman in the back is reclining, exposing her legs, stomach and breasts. The front girl stands further back in the nude portrait.

All in all a sexy and sensual erotic picture with romance.

Ignace Henri Jean Théodore (Henri) Fantin-Latour (Grenoble, France, 14 January 1836 - Buré (Orne), 25 August 1904) was a French painter and lithographer who worked primarily in 19th-century Paris. Latour belonged to the artistic movement of realism. Fantin-Latour was educated at the École nationale supérieure des beaux-arts in Paris.
