Dunes of the Slufter, a nature reserve in the north of the island.
The Slufter is a beach plain on the Dutch Wadden Island Texel, which is largely enclosed by dunes and is in open connection with the North Sea, creating a salt marsh landscape.
The Slufter is part of the National Park Dunes of Texel. The area is owned by Staatsbosbeheer. It has an area of over 700 ha (land and water). In the southeast corner is a viewpoint and an entrance. In the southern part of the area you can go for a stroll. This part of De Slufter is probably the most frequented salt marsh in Europe.[1] To the north and west lies a large resting area.
Strictly speaking, "the slufter" is the name of the creek/ creeks that flowed through the area. The Plain of the Slufter? - Also called the Slufter Valley or the Slufter area - is nowadays also commonly referred to as ?The Slufter?
