The Allgäu Highlands and Herzsee by Walter G. Allgöwer

Above the tranquil Laufbichlsee, a world opens up that seems as though it were shaped from breath and light. The heart of this small mountain lake lies peacefully in the bosom of the green hollow, a dark mirror that reflects the sky and preserves the silence. All around, the slopes rise steeply and ruggedly, criss-crossed by bands of rock which, like ancient scars, tell the story of the Allgäu Alps.
Behind the lake rises the Hochvogel, 2,592 metres high, an angular sentinel of stone whose striking silhouette sharpens the horizon. Its summit seems to touch the sky, and in the clear air it appears both close and unattainable, like a thought that cannot be grasped.
The light sweeps across the flanks, casting golden lines across the grass, making the rocks glow and bathing the lake in a deep blue. A gentle breeze sweeps across the landscape, carrying the scent of earth and summer, and for a moment, time seems to stand still.
Up here, in the Allgäu, in Bavaria, in Europe, the world feels vast and yet intimate. The Laufbichlsee and the Hochvogel create an image that lingers – a silent dialogue between water and mountain, between heart and height.
