On the border of Drenthe and South East Friesland is a special area. The Drents-Friese Wold National Park is one of the largest nature reserves in the Netherlands. In 2000, more than 6,000 hectares of woodland, heathland, shifting sands and brook valley grasslands designated as National Park. The Drents-Friese Wold is one of the most beautiful and important natural areas in Europe and is therefore designated as a Natura 2000 area.
