What a picture! This photo shows Zutphen's impressive tower and city wall, with in the foreground a green canal and some trees that still seem to be wearing their winter coats. The sky is dark and threatening, but that is precisely why the old bricks and the pointed tower stand out in the sunlight. You see immediately that this is a place with a rich history-you almost expect a knight or damsel to walk by any moment.
The combination of the bright light on the buildings and the dark, almost stormy cloud cover makes the image nicely dramatic. The water with the reeds in the foreground and the bench under the trees give the scene a peaceful, almost fairy-tale atmosphere. In short: a typical Dutch city scene that makes you want to go for a walk, rain or no rain!
