by Jan Keteleer

About the artwork

The GAZ M20V was built in 1946, and despite its name, it was a very popular vehicle in Soviet Union. Its unique design made it a popular choice for the police and military. Depending on the model, it was produced in various sizes, with different engines. The most popular model was the GAZ-11-73, which was produced until 1932 and had many positive reviews. Despite its age, the car has been a top seller in the USSR for nearly 50 years.

The GAZ M20V was the first car in the Soviet Union to use domestic body dies. It was designed to replace wooden bucks, which were susceptible to warping. It took factory employees about six months to tune the M20, and the first production model rolled off the assembly line on June 21, 1946. The M20 was the first Soviet automobile to have electric windshield wipers and turn signals. It also had a factory-installed AM radio and a factory-installed heater.

The M20 was the first Soviet car to have domestic body dies. This was a great achievement for the GAZ factory, as it prevented warping caused by wood. The M20 remained on the assembly line until June 1946, with the first prototype ready in November 1944. It featured the first electric windshield wipers and turn signals. It also featured four-wheel hydraulic brakes, electric windows, a heater, and a factory-installed AM radio.
