The Giralda, a tower in the Spanish city of Seville, was built by the Almohads in 1184-1195 and was then the tallest minaret in the world. The tower stands next to the Cathedral of Seville and the patio de los Naranjos. During the Reconquista and the conquest of Seville by the Christians in 1248, the adjacent mosque was converted into a cathedral from 1401. The Giralda was integrated as a bell tower.
