About ‘The Gullfoss waterfall in Iceland’ by KC Photography

The famous Gullfoss waterfall in Iceland. The Gullfoss is a waterfall in the Hvítá in southern Iceland. It is one of Iceland's most popular waterfalls and is easily accessible (by car). The waterfall is part of the Golden Circle, a favourite round-trip tour of Þingvellir, the Geysir and the Gullfoss that can be covered from Reykjavik in one day, and is partly because of this, one of Iceland's most famous tourist spots. The water falls in two stages, which are more or less perpendicular to each other, 32 metres down into a gorge that is again completely perpendicular to the second stage. The steps are formed by hard layers of basalt interspersed with softer materials. These individual layers are also well identified in the walls of the gorge. The gorge is more than 70 metres deep, 20 metres wide and 2.5 kilometres long.
