This photo is one of my favourite images of the past few years. After years of holidaying in Switzerland, it was time to visit Zermatt. Arriving here, I decided to take the cable car to Schwarzsee with my wife.
Schwarzsee is a small lake at 2552 metres, directly below the Matterhorn. Here you also have a good view of the Hörnlihütte, directly below the Matterhorn. The visit was more than worthwhile.
With its iconic shape, this mountain continuously attracts attention; you keep looking at it. Family of mine once stood on the summit of this 4000'er, which makes it extra special.
I opted for a black-and-white edit, because I think it exudes power and drama. Apart from being a beautiful mountain to look at, the climb is not without danger. For me, this image commands respect, for the power of nature. During our visit in Zermatt, it was not entirely cloud-free, but I was actually happy with that. The cloud makes the image more dynamic and less static.
I hope you can enjoy it as much as I did!
