The Mauritshuis (Dutch pronunciation: m?ur?ts??ys, Maurice House) is a major pictorial art museum in The Hague, the Netherlands, housing the Royal Cabinet of Paintings. Previously the residence of count John Maurice of Nassau, it now has a large art collection, including paintings by Dutch painters such as Johannes Vermeer, Rembrandt van Rijn, Jan Steen, Paulus Potter and Frans Hals and works of the German painter Hans Holbein the Younger.
The Mauritshuis is currently closed due to renovations. Approximately 100 of its paintings are displayed in the Gemeentemuseum in The Masters From the Mauritshuis exhibition. Approximately 50 other paintings, including The Girl With the Pearl Earring, are on loan to exhibitions in the US and Japan. Renovations are scheduled to be completed in mid-2014.
