Rural, deserted idyll on the grounds of the enchanting old distillery in Wölsickendorf in Märkisch-Oderland. This photographic image was taken with my Nikon D800 on 12 March 2021 a late afternoon shortly after the rain.
The Old Distillery in Wölsickendorf is a unique monument and part of a listed estate in need of major renovation.
A long history, beginning in 1375 as "Welsekendorp", tells of fire raids and reconstruction, of nobility and manor lordship, e.g. of the von Bredow family, who lived in parts of Brandenburg. A characteristic feature of Wölsickendorf is the estate, which was once one of the most modern and largest.
Built and extended between 1843 and the 1920s, the estate grew steadily and was used for breeding cows, horses, pigs and sheep. The entire estate, consisting of the manor house, the distillery and the stables, is still partly lined by the old estate wall. The distillery was once used to produce alcohol from potatoes and turnips. Unfortunately, the distillery was removed in the early post-war years. Nevertheless, the distillery stands in its impressive uniqueness next to the estate as a landmark and today reminds us of an almost forgotten time.
For lovers of forgotten places, sites and times, this excursion in the Brandenburg area is a real treasure trove. By reducing the colours to the classic black and white, the rural motif fits perfectly into all living rooms, bedrooms and offices. The monochrome character of the picture lends a timeless elegance and simplicity. The dark, mysterious and dramatic mood of the picture gives the motif a unique, individual charm.
