The Orion Nebula by Digital Universe

This spectacular color panorama of the center of the Orion mist is one of the largest photos ever composed of individual photos made with NASA's Hubble Space Telescope. The image, seamlessly composed of a mosaic of 15 separate fields, covers an area of about five percent of the full moon surface. The apparently endless carpet of rich detail revealed by Hubble shows a burgeoning turbulent star factory that plays in a flow of flowing, luminescent gas. Although this 2.5-light-wide image is still a small part of the entire haze, it contains almost all the light of the bright glowing clouds of gas and a star-stud associated with the mist. The mosaic reveals at least 153 glowing protoplanetary disks (first discovered with the Hubble in 1992 and called "proplyds") which are believed to be embryonic solar systems that will eventually form planets. (Our solar system has long been considered as the remnant of exactly such a disk that formed around the newborn sun). The properties closest to the Trapezium stars (image center) shed some of their gas and dust. The starlight starlight of the hottest stars forms "tails" that act as traps turning off the trapezoid. These tails are the result of the star's light pushing the dust and gas from the exterior layers of the buildings. In addition to the luminescent properties, seven discs are signed against the clear background of the mist. At 1,500 light years distance, along our spiral Arm of the Milky Way, the Or
