The Strahov library contains more than 200,000 books, including more than 3,000 manuscripts and 1,500 first editions, stored in a special depository. The library is considered one of 's world's most valuable and preserved libraries, with ceilings decorated with frescoes by Siard Nosecky and Anton Maulbertsch. Located in the Strahov Monastery (Czech: Strahovský klášter), it is a Premonstratensian abbey founded in 1143 by Jindřich Zdík, Bishop John of Prague, and Vladislaus II, Duke of Bohemia.
