About ‘The canal in Amsterdam’ by Marja Antonisse

Amsterdam in Watercolour Along the tranquil waters of the canal, the old buildings stand side by side, as if they have been whispering stories to one another for centuries. Their facades, reflected in the rippling water, bear the marks of time, trade, dreams and encounters. In this watercolour, sharp lines fade into soft colour transitions, allowing the city not only to be seen, but also to be felt.

The transparent layers of paint capture Amsterdam’s unique light: a light that constantly shifts with the clouds, the seasons and the rhythm of the day. The warm earth tones of the façades contrast subtly with the cool blues and greens of the water, whilst the reflections create an almost poetic tranquillity.

This work is an ode to the character of Amsterdam’s canals. Not as an exact representation of a specific place, but as an atmospheric image of a city that effortlessly connects history and vibrancy. The watercolour technique enhances this experience by leaving room for the imagination; colours flow together just as memories blend with the present.

A timeless cityscape in which architecture, water and light come together in a harmonious whole, and in which every viewer can discover their own story.

One of my favourite hobbies is painting watercolours. I often paint pictures based on photographs I’ve taken whilst on holiday. That’s how I bring lovely memories back to life on paper. I not only really enjoy painting with watercolours, but I also find it wonderfully relaxing. It brings me peace, creativity and, above all, a great deal of pleasure.

At Art Heroes we do not mass produce or keep stock, but make to order. Your artwork is made with passion by experienced craftsmen and is on average ready for shipment in 7 business days. Details on the exact delivery date will be sent after placement of the order. Depending on the shipping country the following delivery times apply:

Is your order a gift for someone? We can create you a gift voucher that displays the artwork(s) you ordered, so you have something to give while the artwork is being printed. Just send us an e-mail and we’ll take care of it.

How will the package be sent?

We work with several carriers, mainly UPS and DHL (Depending on the country where it is delivered, this may vary). Couriers can also be used for large or fragile packages.

Canvas are securely packed in plastic bubble wrap and cardboard. Wallpaper and posters are sent in sturdy tubes.

A courier collects the package from us and takes the package to a depot where it usually stays overnight. The day after it is collected and delivered to your home or office. We work with courier services that specialise in handling fragile parcels.

Not at home? Then the delivery driver will leave a note and an appointment can be made to schedule a new delivery.

Unfortunately, there remains a chance that something can happen during a shipment. In the unlikely event that your parcel has been damaged during transit, please take a picture of the entire item, the damage, the entire package and a picture of the shipping label. Send these photos to us by email and we will solve the problem without delay.
