In Kinderdijk you can see how the Netherlands has been fighting, living and working with water all its life. The polders where the windmills are located used to be swampy marshlands. When man decided to live on this fertile land, there was only one challenge, keeping the water away from the houses. After several attempts and a major flood disaster in 1421, many years later it was decided to install mills that grind the water from the polders. Today, the 19 mills are World Heritage Sites and some of them are inhabited.
