Wandering through the picturesque streets of Deventer you will automatically arrive at the Bergkerk in the Bergkwartier. There is a well-known legend about this church and how it came to be: Two Deventer sisters, Martha and Beatrix, were impressed by a knight who had come to Deventer. They both competed for the favour of this man. Beatrix eventually married the knight, leaving Martha alone. Martha then had the church with the two towers built, one slightly higher than the other, as both sisters also differed in height. This would explain the alleged difference in height between the two west towers.
