At the centre of the Candi Sewu complex, not far from Prambanan temple, a headless statue sits in the lotus position, a symbol of inner peace and enlightenment. Although shattered by time and earthquakes, this Buddhist figure retains a striking aura of serenity. Her meditative gesture, with her hands resting on her knees in the mudra of concentration, invites silence and contemplation.
Around her, the eroded stones of the sanctuary bear witness to the past grandeur of the Javanese civilisation of the VIIIᵉ century, when art and spirituality were united in a quest for harmony. Every crack, every fragment seems to whisper ancient prayers carried by the winds of Indonesia.
In the soft afternoon light, the statue becomes the symbol of eternal wisdom: even without its head, it remains whole in its message. It embodies the quiet strength of Buddhism and the melancholy beauty of the passing of time.
Passionate about photography, I travel the world in search of the most beautiful shots.
