Tips for use

Point your camera at the floor or a piece of furniture first, then move it slowly up towards the wall. A bare white wall is hard for your phone to recognise.
Move your phone gently from side to side. Holding it still or waving it around quickly does not help.
Make sure there is enough light. In a dark room your phone has nothing to lock onto.

About ‘The first rays of sunshine’ by Matthias Stolt

The young woman enjoys the first rays of sunshine falling through the patio door onto her body and bare skin. The photo was taken in a hotel room on Fuerteventura. As the hotel was fully booked, I had to share a hotel room with the model. I managed to take this photo at dawn when her body was illuminated by the early morning sun. With her consent, of course. I took the photo with an analogue SLR camera using black-and-white slide film (Agfa-Scala) and a fast 1.4/85 mm telephoto lens.

Meet the artist

Matthias Stolt

Hamburg, Germany

I worked as a freelance photo designer for 25 years. My focus was on fashion and advertising photography. I am also the author of numerous books and articles in trade magazines.
Before becoming self-employed, I worked in marketing for a large camera manufacturer, where I was in charge of public relations.

I discovered my love of photography during my training as a retoucher. This sparked a desire not only to edit photos, but to take them myself.
